Last night I was telling my wifey [Jenna] about a couple more opportunities I had been presented with, she smirked and said, “I hope this doesn’t offend you, but I’m just gonna listen to you every time there is a new idea until you decide to pursue one of them, then I’ll freak out.” This is one reason I love her, because she’s honest with me!
I just got off of the phone with my good friend Kyle Circle. I trust Kyle, especially when it comes to being an entrepreneur; he’s a good one. Kyle, his wife and their team have created a wonderful platform for writers and brand recognition through Kyle’s most recent pursuit Pollinate Media. I was sharing a couple of ideas and getting his opinion, which led to me telling him what Jenna had told me last night and this was his response:
“Always look at a new opportunity, but know who you are and what you’re going for. Start saying no enough that your yes carries a lot of weight. One of the biggest problems with people is they aren’t happy where they are but they don’t look into any new opportunities. We aren’t dreaming enough.”
This conversation was a challenge for me because I don’t say no enough… What about you? Are you dreaming enough? Are you protecting your time, energy & other resources for projects and opportunities that fall within your personal mission statement? Do you have a personal mission statement?
If the answer is ‘no’ to any of these questions, let’s dive in together! Next week I’ll be posting an outline to help guide you through drafting your personal mission statement.
